Sewing Machine Maintenance

How many of your last annual sewing machine routine service visits have you missed? One? Two? Eleven? Did you maybe not even know you were supposed to get one every year? You wouldn’t be alone, people are frequently surprised when I tell them that. If you have been going in every year, good for you, you’re a rare breed. Those who don’t, you should know it can be anywhere from $75-$200+ just for a routine checkup, depending on what type of machine you have. As if sewing isn’t expensive enough as a hobby, right? In this class, you can learn to not be held financially hostage by your machine and at the same time, sewing gods willing, keep it in such great shape that you no longer spend 45 minutes troubleshooting for every 15 minutes of sewing. Wouldn’t that be nice?
Decided to stop taking sass from your sewing machine yet? Smart move. Because let's be honest, while humility is a good thing, wrestling with an expensive machine in your own home is just a bit too humbling to be doing every day. So buckle up, because we’ll be diving deep right off the bat and we’ve got a TON of material to cover in one class (though this class will be taking place hopefully once a month, and anyone who’s taken the class already can return for half price. So there will be ample opportunity to dive deeper if you want.)
In this class, we'll strip away the mystery and get down to business:
- The Guts & Glory: Learn the essential cleaning rituals and where to apply that glorious oil. Proper lubrication for peak performance – and maybe even a few less mysterious squeaks.
- Preventative Power: Understand the simple steps to keep your machine in fighting shape and avoid those frustrating hiccups before they even start.
- Empower Yourself: Discover how regular servicing and care can save you costly trips to the repair shop and ensure your machine keeps purring like a well-oiled tiger (or at least a lubricated housecat.)
I have made a separate (and MUCH longer) PDF with all the details on materials needed for the class. There is an accompanying video as well (also long.)
This class is perfect for anyone who wants to understand their machine better, save money on servicing, and keep their creative flow uninterrupted. No prior maintenance experience required – just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get a little greasy. Who knows, you might even discover how much you love working with your hands like this and eventually find yourself doing it for a living (it happens, believe me.)

| Instructor: | Sean Liberan |
| Instructor Bio: | Sean freelances as tailor/sewing instructor/sewing machine repairman, and, out of some romantic but ultimately misguided belief that two inconsistent, underpaid careers will somehow balance each other out, spends the rest of his time as a musical theatre performer. On the off chance he isn't busy with one of those things, he can be found waiting in line for food stamps or selling his belongings on Facebook marketplace. Www.theSeamMan.com, www.thewulfeater.com |
